{- per boarshill on HEIRtagger: ""Photograph originally captioned Woolly Mammoth found in Siberia, 1903." There are a number of instances of this photo on the web, often in newspaper articles talking about bringing back mammoths from frozen DNA. The common story is that this one was found frozen in Siberia, stuffed, and put on display in St Petersburg Museum in 1903. This turn of the century period seems to have been a very active one for retrieving frozen animals from the Siberian tundra."
