{- Per class31 on HEIRtagger: "These shop fronts are almost unchanged today." -}

per boarshill on HEIRtagger: "Further to class31's remarks above: this was a chemist's shop when photographed, and is still a working pharmacy today. (Note the Kodak film advert in the window)"

per boarshill on HEIRtagger: "Photo taken after 1908? The shop sign says: F.R. Stent *late* Appleby. In " The chemist and druggist" for May 1908 there is an advertisement for a Junior which directs applications to contact Appleby and Co. in Argyle Street."

Per Martin Rush 30/12/2022: " HEIR 42895 - AHist: England: "Bath, Argyle Street. Shop fronts" after 1908.

From the comments in More Information, I see we have been here before, in the days of Heirtagger. I now find I can offer you this rephotograph, taken by me on 17 June 2019.

On the HEIR image itself, I had not previously noticed "Copyright Country Life" in the bottom left corner. Possibly issued as a postcard? Finding this suggests looking for a Country Life archive, which exists, and is now held, by chance, at the University of Bath :

https://unibathlibrary.wordpress.com/2019/01/17/country-life-magazine-archive-1897-2005/

It would probably be possible to date the HEIR image from the archive and perhaps even identify the photographer -- but unfortunately, access to the Bath material seems to be restricted to staff and students at Bath. (The same material may be available via the Bodleian -- it is listed as ONLINE in SOLO.)

Other archives, however, are available, for example "Bath in Time":
https://bathintime.co.uk/image-library/image-overview/poster/13676/posterid/13676.html
This offers a similar photo dated "c. 1920" which shows the Pharmacy shop sign as "E.J. Appleby". Since the HEIR shop sign is "F R Stent late Appleby", this moves the HEIR photo to post-1920 rather than post-1908.

Pinterest has another old photo of the E.J. Appleby pharmacy with the caption "Chemist in Argyle Street 1927". (This would narrow down the timeframe even more, though a person posting to Pinterest may not be as reliable as an archive?)

The paired porcelain insulators set into the front wall of both shops are probably for telephones. I cannot see any wires. If they were for mains electricity the cables etc would surely be chunkier. I'm sure there is a huge website of GPO insulator types and dates somewhere.

Summary: Possibly published in Country Life, 1920, 1927 of later. Possibly in the appropriate archives."
