{- Per boarshill on HEIRtagger: "This is the Nîmes amphitheatre (called "arena" locally if searching). Built in 70 AD. The photo was taken from the south side of the amphitheatre wall and looks toward the north-west. In the far distance is the Tour Magne, built by Augustus, a pale blotch in the distant woods. On the left side the lantern of the Lycée Alphonse-Daudet (close) lines up with the tower of the Église Saint-Paul (further away). There is some indistinct text along the bottom edge of the photo - "Nimes" "Arena" ? + two more words. The Nîmes amphitheatre, once used as a bullring, has now been restored and is in frequent use for concerts in summer." -}
