ALSO HEIR 36495 (Passmore)

HEIR database identifies 43088 as Mucklebank Turret, but does not offer any suggestions for photographer credit or date.
HEIR 43089 seems extremely - is it the same photo?

(1) The same photo appears on in R.G. Collingwood's booklet Pilgrimage of Hadrians Wall 1930 Fig 22 facing page 44, though again no credit or date.

(2) Archaeologia Aeliana 2nd Series, Vol. 24, 1903, includes with three related pieces, the second of which again includes this photo:

Excavations on the line of the Roman Wall:
1. Introduction. By Thomas Hodgkin. 1
2. Mucklebank Wall Turret. By J. P. Gibson. 13
3. Great Chesters (Aesica). By J. P. Gibson. 19-64

If you agree - with the benefit of your big screen - that all three are the same photo of the same scene, then the photo is by J. P. Gibson and was taken earlier than its publication in 1903.
In the Mucklebank Wall Turret article Gibson describes how he discovered the turret in summer 1891 and started excavation in June 1892:

"In the summer of 1891, while examining carefully the grass-covered line of debris that indicates the track of the Roman Wall .... my attention was attracted by a square joint between two stones in a hole scratched by a rabbit. Upon examination, it proved to be part of the ruins of a wall turret hitherto undescribed. ... Permission having been obtained of the owner, Mr. W. H. Coulson, the assistance of Mr. Tailford and other workers was secured, and in June, 1892, the excavation of the turret was commenced."

During the excavation of the turret, RIB 1763, a centurial stone, was discovered on the outside of the south-east angle of the turret and is mentioned in publications in 1893 (see RIB 1763 bibliography). ...

So to finish on dating the photograph: after 1892, and before 1903."
