Caption
Myres: Libya: Tripoli. “’The shadow of a great rock in a weary land’. Halting place “Ain Shershana” in Wady Raml, on one of the main roads into the interior. Low limestone hills, with narrow gorges, easily defensible. As the view shows, there is plenty of water locally; but the Arabs let it run into the sea, instead of using it for irrigation.”
